Sunday Supper: My favorite Memorial Day Treats!

Hello Friend,

Welcome to Sunday Supper, the table is set!

With the Unofficial kick-off to summer around the corner, I wanted to share a few of my favorite recipes I'll be making next weekend! If you know that line from Legally Blonde 2, about the hot dog, this recipe reminds me of that every time I make it, lol!

Hot Dog Sauce

Nothing says summer like a hot dog, and if I do it, I will do it up like THIS!!

In this recipe, I share my special Chef tip on steaming hot dogs and getting them to taste just like the ballpark, but the real star is the chili to top them with!

It's a rich meat and bean chili, and the best part is that if you make a big pot of it ahead of time, you can pull from it all weekend because chili is always better the next day.

Last Thoughts...

As a military child Memorial Day has always held weight in my life. And no matter the state of the world, let us never forget to remember all those who have lost their lives fighting for our country, it's not just a day off, and that will never be lost on me.

Remembrance can also be a celebration, and that's much of what this holiday is also about. Known as the unofficial/official start of summer, it marks the end of school for many, warmer days, and open season for backyard grilling and barbecuing!

That also means I will be reaching for my watermelon recipes, and ice box desserts like Eclair Cake or my grandmother's Banana Split Cake. All great for cooling off when the temps rise.

Now, here are a couple more recipes that just say, "Quintessential Americana" to me!

Banana Pudding Pie

I can't get over how AMAZING this pie is! It might be in my top 5 all time favorite recipes that I have ever developed. The crispy and butter nutter butter pie crust, with the rich and creamy pudding mixture, fluffy whipped cream, bananas, and more wafers on top. It just makes you lose all self-control after the first bite!

Broccoli Cauliflower Salad

This is a simple salad that I grew up on, and that may even be quite familiar to you too. Of course, I gave it a little bit of a chef spin to it. I like to use a really nice white cheddar to give it just something a little extra, and make some homemade ranch for the best flavor. I especially love this as a side for my instant pot ribs!

P.S. Feel free to respond to my emails any time you have a question you need answered, a knife or kitchen gadget recommendation, or a recipe you'd like to see me master. I am always here to be a kitchen resource for you, fire away.

May you find that your time in the kitchen brings you joy, and adds lots love to your dinner table.

Until next time, Happy Cooking,
